Welcome to my world of transformative education! I’m Sharon Jacob, a passionate advocate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. With expertise in Postcolonial Theory, Gender and Sexuality studies, Feminist Theory, and Race and Whiteness studies,I work to create spaces of belonging and inclusion in Higher education.
Currently, I serve as the Associate Professor of New Testament and Postcolonial Studies at Claremont School of Theology. I channel my commitment to justice and equity into tangible action, driving change through curriculum development, inclusive classroom practices, and the creation of virtual communities that uplift and support every student.
Be true to your values and personal vision to get more out of life
As an author, my writings span across religion, politics, gender, sexuality, and race, aiming to spark meaningful dialogues and drive tangible change. Among my publications, I authored the monograph “Reading Mary alongside Indian Surrogate Mothers: Violent Love, Oppressed Liberation, and Infancy Narratives” in 2015. Additionally, I co-authored “The Mentoring Handbook” in 2024. My body of work also includes several essays, such as “Jezebel and Indo-Western Women: Nation, Nationalism, and the Ecologies of Sexual Violence in Revelation 2:20-25” (2019) and “One Nation Under God: Teaching Biblical Studies in the era of Nationalism” (2022), among others. These pieces delve into diverse topics, aiming to provoke thought and incite meaningful action.
I understand the power of inclusivity firsthand—the power to transform lives, shape futures, and build a better world. That’s why I dedicate myself to empowering educators and institutions to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion as the cornerstones of education. Together, we can create cultures of hospitality, where every voice is heard, every perspective valued, and every student empowered to succeed. Welcome to the journey of transformation—let’s make history together.
